Osceola Information
Welcome to Osceola CITY UTILITES 747-3411 The City of Osceola operates the WATER, SEWER AND TRASH COMPACTOR facilities. Currently, we bill monthly. The requirement is that these services are paid in advance. Monthly costs are: A base fee for Water $15.00, and $1.25 per 1,000 gallons, Sewer $23.00 and Compactor $8.33. A $150.00 deposit is required on all properties. A permit is required to use the compactor which is provided at the City Clerk’s office. This is simply to verify to the compactor operator that you have contacted the City Clerk and that those who are not on our billing list are not allowed to use the compactor without paying for the service. Payment options include: 1. mail 2. hand delivery 3. ACH 4. credit card (via online only) 5. drop box
PET OWNERS All dogs and cats are required to be licensed with the City even if they are house pets. The fee is $ 5.00. The licenses are for one year and expire on April 30th. Proof of current rabies vaccinations is required when purchasing licenses.
COMPACTOR 747-4881 Hours Open: Monday & Wednesday, noon – 6:00p.m. Saturday 9:00a.m. – 3:00p.m. Your $8.33 per monthly fee is for everyday household garbage. An extra fee is charged for items such as appliances, carpeting, or anything that is not everyday garbage. Used oil is accepted at the compactor, which must be placed in the special container. The compactor operator can show you where to dump it. No Freon.

BALL PARK The City has a ballpark located south of town. Contact Bob Zelasney at 747-8981 if you have a child interested in participating on one of the teams. The annual fee is $ 25.00 with a $ 75.00 family maximum.
CITY COUNCIL The City Council meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 7:00 P.M. at the City office. The Mayor is Wendell Lindsley and the Councilmen are: Charles Hayes, Kraig Kuhnel, Don Sterup and Jason Klein The recycling trailer is located at the compactor for your convenience. There is no extra charge for use of the recycling trailer. Please keep items in either a paper or plastic bag so unloading is easier. You may place the following items in the trailer: Cardboard: Please break down boxes to utilize the space most effectively. Plastics: Number 2 colored and number one clear Paper: Office paper, junk mail, envelopes, etc. It does not need to be shredded. Aluminum Cans: Please rinse out and smash. Tin Cans: Please rinse out, remove the labels and smash when possible. Glass: Clear and Brown. Please rinse out and remove the labels. You do not need to separate the different kinds of glass because they all go into the same container.
LIBRARY The library is located at 131 N. Main just north of the auditorium or 1 ½ blocks south of the post office. It is open Monday and Fridays from 12:30 P.M. to 5:30 P.M., Wednesday from 12:30 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. and Saturday 10:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. A computer lab is available for your use.
CHURCHES St. Paul’s Lutheran Church St. Vincent Catholic Church United Methodist Church SCHOOLS The elementary and middle/high schools are located in the southeast part of town on Kimmel Street. The Polk County Christian School is located just south of John Deere off Highway 81.
EMERGENCY SERVICES
ANNIE JEFFREY HOSPITAL is located on the south edge of town on Beebe Street.
The POLK COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT dispatches all ambulance, fire and police calls for the County. Dial 911 for emergencies or 747-2231 for non-emergencies.
The FIRE DEPARTMENT is all volunteers. Al Willits is the fire chief.
AMBULANCE SERVICE is provided by the City and staffed by volunteers.
The POLK COUNTY CLINIC is located on the west side of the town square on State Street.

SWIMMING POOL The pool opens on approximately June 1st each year and closes in early to mid August depending upon high school and college schedules. The pool is located along Highway 81/92 in the City Park. Season passes may be purchased or if you prefer, you may pay a daily admission. Red Cross swimming lessons are provided each year for a nominal fee or you may make arrangements with a lifeguard to have private lessons. Children taking swimming lessons will need to pay the daily admission or have purchased a season pass (family or child). Water aerobics are offered during the summer. The fee is the daily admission or a season pass.
